Solar Investment Fund Launched in Alberta

If we ever are going to reach a point of true sustainability in Alberta, we need to employ every method available to us. Alberta needs to reduce what we use, re-purpose our waste, and ensure that what we do use has the smallest possible impact.

Solar is just one of the tools. So, is wind, hydro, biomass, conservation and adopting energy efficiency initiatives.

Learn a simple lesson folks and let's be serious: We enjoy some of the lowest energy rates today in Alberta because the private sector invested +16 Billion dollars in building the backbone of our current generation platform. Because of this, consumers, today, are enjoying the benefits of buying electricity in the 3.5 cent per kWh range. Do you remember paying 8 to 10 cents for electricity? If you shop around, you can find rates have come down.

Now, here is the crux of a wise decision: Use what you can save, and invest in green energy.

If you do this, then you can become part of the solution rather than blaming oil, coal, and greed. That's not the problem.

Boost for solar micro generators

Green Alberta Energy has created a private Solar Investment Fund and it will grow over time. The Fund financially supports small-scale residential micro-generation solar operators because we believe in the importance of harnessing energy from the sun and using it to help offset our dependency on fossil fuels.

Residential micro-generators registered as customers of any of the 20 different retailers listed on the Green Alberta Energy web site will receive a supplementary Feed-in-Tariff monthly payment based on the surplus solar produced electricity that is exported back onto the grid. Check it out, and if you are a residential micro generator, join in! And, help us push for change.

"Make a wise decision: Use what you can save, and invest in green energy."

But here is where all the big money is hiding: The Climate Change and Emissions Management Corporation (CCEMC) is managing hundreds of millions of dollars collected from Alberta’s carbon tax. This is the group that our government should be directing to put money into a FIT program: If they did, it is possible to encourage more and more consumers to invest in PV Solar systems and, by doing so, take some of the energy off the grid that use in their homes.

Today, Alberta has about 1400 micro generators producing clean energy. What would our province look like if there was 20,000 distributed generators located all over the province. If the CCEMC stepped up to the table, this is the magnitude of the possibility.

You cannot blame the NDP nor can you blame the PCs. Stop living in the past and, simply, ask your MLA to push the CCEMC to free up some of those millions to invest in PV Solar. The best investment is to give the money to residential consumers that are investing in greening the grid.
